Dynamic dialogues: SPONTANEITY AND STRUCTURE
W/ Edward Rice

Saturday, September 16 – 11:00am - 2:00pm
at The Kingsland Ward

Immersive and site-specific performances require a delicate balance of spontaneity and specificity; being able to make choices on the spot in response to the audience and fellow performers.  In this 3-hour workshop, Third Rail Projects long-standing company member and collaborator Edward Rice introduces improvised movement and text practices that develop the ability to be spontaneous and responsive while working within a structure.

W/ Marissa Nielsen-Pincus

Wednesday, September 20 – 11:00am - 2:00pm
at The Kingsland Ward

As part of a series offered by Marissa Nielsen-Pincus, this workshop shares the methods she has developed over the years as a world-renowned performer and Body-Mind Centering® practitioner to explore and understand the body as an articulate instrument. Participants will be guided in an educational and therapeutic exploration of their own movement patterns and possibilities, demonstrating the ways in which somatic exploration of this type can become the root of a choreographic or improvisational structure. Open to participants of all levels of experience.

Dynamic dialogues: Partnering Each Other and Partnering the Space
W/ Edward Rice

Friday, September 29 – 11:00am - 2:00pm
at The Kingsland Ward

The skills required to partner our fellow performers are closely related to how we engage with architectural elements such as furniture, walls, or stairs.  In this workshop, participants will explore weight sharing and partnering skills, becoming more facile both with dancing with a partner and dancing with the structures in a space.  Taught by Third Rail Projects company member and teaching artist Edward Rice, this course is presented through the lens of his composition and contact improvisation background,  Experience in either of those practices is not required, but a background in physical theater, dance or athletics is suggested.
